Angus Rawson
President
Why I joined
My name is Angus. I am 20 and was born in Manchester. I have worked on a farm since I was 10 years old; this made me love everything which moved. Driving tractors and anything I was allowed to do instantly created a passion for engineering from a young age. With that, I have always loved the outdoors and am excited to travel the world at some point to discover the amazing countries out there. I have always loved sport as well and have played rugby and hockey since I can remember, somehow always balancing playing both on a Saturday; however, I couldn't imagine having it any other way. I am currently a second-year Mechanical Engineering student. I was in my first year, I was looking at doing an extra engineering project. After starting a discussion with a technician about the resources available to me, Formula Student was mentioned. I was told that many technicians have always wanted to start the project, but no student has taken it upon themselves to start it. Looking for something extra to do, I decided to start the society. After many calls and emails to get approval, we're here with 125+ members, all with a common goal. Looking at the society as a whole, we are so diverse, and I love that this process allows us to gain members from all courses, backgrounds and skill sets. This makes it incredible to be the president, being able to talk to so many different people and hopefully support everyone and take us to Silverstone. Alongside a very long to-do list, I am currently working on using our large society base for the greater good, alongside working towards building a car. I want to find a way to support a charity or local community and make a greater impact than just on a personal team level. So hopefully in the next few weeks we can find a way to develop this and start an outreach to support a charity. Any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
